Influencing the university community

Student representatives at the university

Students are an active part of the university’s scientific community. Thus, the students have representatives in many of the university’s official bodies, such as the University Board, University Collegium, faculty councils and many different working groups. Students can gain credits by acting as student representatives in these bodies.

Opportunities to influence in the Student Union

Credits can be gained from acting in the bodies and subject associations of the Student Union of the University of Lapland (LYY). You can gain 2 to 4 credits for a year-long role: the number of credits is based on the extent of the role, its degree of difficulty and the number of attended meetings. Working as a student tutor also makes you eligible for receiving credits.

Projects serving our university community

In addition to utilising official routes, our students arrange multiple projects a year that aim to have an impact on e.g. the students’ well-being, the promotion of students’ rights and opportunities and increasing the comfiness and vigorousness of the campus area. This work is valuable to all people working in close contact with the university community. In addition to the experience and end results themselves, this kind of work can provide you with a sense of satisfaction and credits for your degree.

Your opinion matters

In positions of influence, you will be able to address significant matters affecting all students. You can take a stand and present informed arguments on issues and how they should be handled and developed. You will learn varied community and working life skills that can be applied in many future jobs and positions of trust. Through projects you also get to take concrete development measures.
