Arctic Education: Engaging Communities through Agency and Ownership

The research group Arctic Education: Engaging Communities through Agency and Ownership explores innovative ways to strengthen social cohesion in Arctic communities through education. By focusing on Arctic pedagogy, we emphasise the importance of place-based learning that draws on the cultural, environmental and social contexts of the region. Our approach highlights the concept of glocality –understanding the interplay between local traditions and global perspectives – while prioritising rural and Indigenous education. We work to empower communities by fostering agency and ownership, ensuring that educational practices are both relevant and sustainable for future generations.
