Career in our university
The academic career structure at the University of Lapland enables diverse career paths for those working in teaching and research positions. The model is based on a four-level career system, where progression occurs through degrees and achievements in teaching and research. Our university also implements a tenure track model, which provides a pathway to a permanent professorship.

Title of docent
The university may, upon application, award the Title of Docent to you, provided that you have comprehensive knowledge in your field; a capacity for independent research or artistic work demonstrated through publications or some other manner; and good teaching skills. We also expect you to have a demonstrable record of conducting research or artistic activities in a field related to the profile or focus areas of the university, a faculty, or an independent institute of the university.

When applying for the Title of Docent, please start by contacting the faculty or some other teaching and research unit whose task is to determine whether there are sufficient grounds for awarding the Title of Docent from the perspective of the strategic profile of the university and the faculty.
