Rovaniemi as a hometown
International
Rovaniemi is an international city thanks to tourism in Lapland and our exchange students; as many as one fifth of our new students each year are international students. Internationality at our university is also reflected in numerous international events as well as through foreign teachers and researchers.
Sense of community
The people of Rovaniemi are very welcoming and friendly toward newcomers. Although Rovaniemi is the largest city in Europe by area, its urban center is compact, bringing people close to one another. Our university faculties are also located on the same campus. Here, you will quickly find yourself becoming part of our community.
Diverse cultural life
Our city has a strong and diverse cultural life, which is strongly influenced by our university’s Faculty of Arts. The Rovaniemi Theatre, Art Museum, Science Centre, Arktikum, tourist attractions, galleries, Aalto Centre, concerts and festivals also offer a wealth of cultural experiences throughout the year.
Arctic
The Arctic environment offers the opportunity for rich natural experiences with variations in light and temperature throughout the year. The numerous sports services offered by the University Sports Department and our city, the ski resort near the city center, and nature provide a good setting for recreation and exercise.
