As a student at our university, you will have access to an email account and a username, which you will need for logging into Peppi, Moodle, email, classroom workstations, and the wireless network.

The username is valid for the duration of your study rights and an additional 14 days thereafter. You can log into Peppi only after your study rights have begun. Study guides, degree structures, and teaching schedules can be browsed without logging in.

You can activate your user account after you have received an email about the creation of your credentials. Note that the email about the creation of your credentials may also go to the spam folder.

The credentials are created after your information has been entered into the student registry.

Activate your account using personal online banking credentials or a mobile certificate at https://iam.luc.fi/.

You can find information about obtaining a mobile certificate at www.mobiilivarmenne.fi.

If you do not have personal online banking credentials or a mobile certificate, or if you encounter problems activating your user account, please contact the student HelpDesk.

If you have an existing user account from the University of Lapland or Lapland University of Applied Sciences, a new user account will not be created for you, and you do not need to activate a new password. Instead, you will use your existing credentials.

The user account is valid for the duration of the study rights and an additional 14 days thereafter.

End of Access Rights

After the study rights end, the user accounts and associated email inboxes, cloud service files (e.g., OneDrive), and any home directory used by the student (\halla\home or \viipus\home) will be deleted. It is the user’s responsibility to save any necessary content from the email inbox and other storage locations before the study rights end.

An automatic notification will be sent to the user approximately 14 days before the account closure, in both Finnish and English, informing them about the closing account.

Account Closure

The notification about the account closure will instruct the user to prepare for the closure or ensure that if the employment or study rights continue, the access rights information is updated in the personnel or student administration system, thereby extending the account validity accordingly.

At the University:

Log in to the computer > Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete -> Select “Change Password” -> Enter your old password and the new password twice. Use a strong password that is long, at least 14 characters, and includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, or special characters.

Outside the University:

Go to pwd.luc.fi -> Enter your username in the format LUC\yourusername on the top line and follow the rest of the instructions.

A forgotten password is primarily changed using personal online banking credentials or a mobile certificate at https://iam.luc.fi/.

A forgotten password can also be changed by calling the student HelpDesk at +358 40 484 4488.

Service requests and questions should be directed to the student HelpDesk.

Strong Password

The password associated with the username should be chosen to be as difficult to guess as possible, but still easy for the person to remember. This way, it does not need to be written down, reducing the chance of it falling into the hands of outsiders. Examples of such strong passwords are compound words that do not mean anything but are easy to remember. A strong password should also not be guessable based on the user’s personal characteristics, such as address, date of birth, hobbies, family members, etc.

Password Requirements

Use a strong password that is long, at least 14 characters, and includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, or special characters.

Multiple Passwords

The password used for university services should not be used for public internet services, such as Facebook or public email services, etc.

Two-factor authentication protects your user account and information from unauthorized access, even if you fall victim to username and password phishing.

Two-factor authentication involves, in addition to your username and password, either answering a phone call to your phone, entering a six-digit code received via SMS, or using a smartphone app, Microsoft Authenticator. Using the authenticator is the most recommended and easiest method of authentication.

This app is available for Android devices from the Google Play Store and for iOS devices from the Apple App Store.

Your phone is therefore an important part of two-factor authentication.

Instructions for using two-factor authentication can be found in the LUC IT services portal:
